Out of the ten different tortoises for sale at xyzReptiles there seems to be a trend that leans towards some of the more popular species and we think that there is a reason behind that. Tortoises for sale make up a small but growing part of what we do here every day and we want your feedback to make sure we are growing in the right areas.
The Red Footed Tortoise
It’s not hard to realize why the Red Footed Tortoise is our number one selling tortoise species on the site. At first glance anyone can see that these brightly colored medium sized pet tortoises are a beautiful reptile pet. They are sold as well started captive born hatchlings with brightly colored red heads and feet and browns, orange and black colored shells. They are one of the few pet tortoises than can be kept inside or outside and their varied diet makes them an easy tortoise pet to care for. They are also very competitively priced and are often on sale due to our extensive number of local breeders that hatch these gems on a yearly basis.
The Russian Tortoise
Russian Tortoises are sold at a slightly larger starting size of four inches and can grow to twice that size which makes them a small sized tortoise. They are easily sexed at that size so you can get a pair or a particular sex with 100% certainty. Russian tortoises can handle extreme temperatures in the wild and are more capable of handling the weather changes from state to state. They are more affordable than the other tortoises on the market and can be maintained indoors or outdoors. We are very happy to be offering captive bred and born hatchling Russian tortoises as well at xyzReptiles.
The African Spurred Tortoise
Our third most popular tortoise for sale happens to also be the third largest land tortoise and that is the African Spurred or Sulcata Tortoise. Sulcatas are only available as captive bred and born since they cannot be imported from the wild and are normally available on a year round basis. Being one of the larger tortoises in the world with adult males reaching sizes in excess of one hundred pounds makes this a tortoise that is not meant for everyone. You must always consider where and how you plan on keeping a giant animal like this one before making your purchase. Once you have figured out the logistics we will be happy to provide you with a healthy pet tortoise as well as their lighting, heating and dietary needs.
At xyzReptiles we work hard to educate our customers as well as people who have purchased their animals elsewhere on the ideal methods of keeping tortoises. We have a helpful staff that can be reached by phone, email or Facebook messenger at all business hours.
